On the 6th of April 2024, the millions of families who claim Child Benefit will have started to receive their increased payments.
Parents with one child will now receive an annual increase of £83.20, taking the amount to £1,331 a year, and for every additional child £881 a year (an annual increase of £54.60).
Broken down, this means that families will receive:
- £102.40 every 4 weeks (£25.60 per week) for the first or only child
- £67.80 every 4 weeks (£16.95 per week) for each additional child

Those who already receive Child Benefit will not need to contact HMRC; the new payment amounts will automatically be paid directly to them – those who may have changed any personal details, such as a bank account or address, are being urged to update this information as soon as possible.
Angela MacDonald, HMRC’s Deputy Chief Executive and Second Permanent Secretary, said, “The increase in Child Benefit rates for existing claimants is automatic and families do not need to contact us.
“New claimants should apply online or using HMRC’s app. Search ‘child benefit’ on GOV.UK for more information.”
