Umbrella company contractors will be pleased to learn that the latest Report on Jobs revealed great news for contractors based north of the border.
The recent Report on Jobs, carried out by the Bank of Scotland, found that the number of people placed into work in Scotland increased again during May, though the rate of growth remained below the levels seen in the opening quarter of 2015 and throughout 2014.
However, May’s findings revealed that the rate of growth in temp billings accelerated sharply from the previous month to the fastest since November last year.
The demand for contract/temporary staff at Scottish businesses increased during last month and hourly rates of pay increased for the second month running, and to the greatest extent since March 2014.
Looking at a regional analysis, all monitored regions apart from Aberdeen recorded rises in temporary billings, with Dundee showing the most marked increase in contractor pay.
The strongest increases in demand were reported in the IT & Computing and Secretarial & Clerical sectors, while decreases were seen in Blue Collar and Executive & Professional.
Donald MacRae, Chief Economist at Bank of Scotland, commented on the findings, “May’s Barometer was a healthy 59.6 – slightly up from last month.
“The number of people placed into work rose accompanied by an increase in both permanent and temporary vacancies. The rate of increase in permanent starting salaries was strong while hourly pay rates for temporary staff increased for the second month in a row. These results show the Scottish economy recovering some of the growth momentum lost in January this year.”
