The Bank of Scotland’s report ‘An Appetite for Growth: Ambition and Opportunity, will interest umbrella company contractors trading in the sector, as increased investment is set to create thousands of job opportunities.
The report, which surveyed over 100 Scottish food and drink businesses, found that two-thirds of respondents predict that over the next five years, they will increase their workforce.
According to the findings, respondents were confident of at least 940 new jobs between them over the next five years, and, if this was replicated across the wider industry, it could result in as many as 5,000 additional new jobs.
The findings demonstrate that the industry is set to significantly exceed trade body Scotland Food & Drink’s current target of achieving £12.5bn turnover for the industry by 2017.
Alasdair Gardner, Managing Director of Commercial Banking at Bank of Scotland, said, “Scotland’s food and drink sector already makes a tremendous contribution to Scotland’s economy and these results show that will only increase over the coming of years. The creation of more than 5,600 jobs will be a very welcome boost to communities across Scotland as economic recovery continues.
“The reality is that if this level of growth continues we will see levels of growth in the food and drink industry that could soon be alongside oil and gas on the export market.”
