With the eagerly awaited Olympics soon to begin, there will be many people and businesses across the UK who will benefit from the event, including contractors who use umbrella services.

The latest the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) JobsOutlook survey, has said that the Olympics could provide a boost to employer confidence; with a quarter of UK bosses saying the event will prove good for their business.

The report revealed that 31 per cent of employers plan to increase temping, freelancer and umbrella company contractor numbers in the next quarter, with 28 per cent revealing that they will increase their numbers over the next 3-12 month period.

Roger Tweedy, REC’s Director of Research, said, “There is a sense of hesitancy out there as employers are buffeted with bad news from the continent and are staring at official growth figures that seem to be stuck.

“But there are still reasons to be positive. Consumer confidence is rising slowly, and the impact of that should filter through to businesses in a few months.

“Barring any terrible shocks from the eurozone and with the potential of a boost to business from the Olympics we could still be on track for slow improvements in job creation as time progresses.”

A separate study by Lloyds Banking Group has also revealed that the Olympics will result in a £16.5bn boost to the UK economy over the next five years, creating more than 62,000 jobs for permanent workers, freelancers and umbrella company contractors
