What is Essex Limited?
Launched in 2011 by financial and business advisers Grant Thornton and law firm Birkett Long, Essex Limited gives a unique insight into the performance of the Essex business community.
The annual survey analyses the financial performance of the county’s 100 largest independent companies and so provides a yardstick against which the county can assess its economic performance and businesses can benchmark themselves against their peers.
How Essex Limited is compiled
Essex Limited 2016 is compiled using the most recent publicly available accounts (as at October 2016) of the county’s 100 largest independent companies based on turnover and principally controlled and managed in Essex.
Inevitably there is a time delay between the availability of the data used and the presentation of this report. The findings, therefore relate mainly to a period when the UK had emerged from a sustained recession and GDP was back in positive territory.
As such, the report offers a fascinating insight into how Essex Limited performed as the economy recovered and how the county’s largest businesses prepared to take advantage of a more buoyant marketplace.
The results are derived from the current and previous year’s company accounts to allow a comparison between the two years.
