A recent report has shown that IT vacancies among umbrella company contractors, freelancers and permanent workers, increased for the third successive quarter at the end of 2012.

According to the online IT recruitment website, CWJobs.co.uk, there has been a strong overall performance across the entire industry, with the growth in IT vacancies mainly being driven by recruitment for software house roles.

IT contractors will be interested to learn that 64% of all vacancies advertised on the website, was for software houses.

CWJobs.co.uk also found that the finance sector are now starting to turn to IT professionals after successive declines in the previous two quarters, as it was revealed that Q4 saw vacancies grow within this sector, by 0.9%.

Richard Nott, Website Director, CWJobs.co.uk said, “The IT industry is strengthening. The sector faces challenges if it is to continue to grow, the demand is clear but with that, comes greater competition for roles and an even greater need for quality candidates to fill these vacancies. 

“IT is now a fundamental part of the business operation, so firms demand more from the modern tech candidate. IT pros need to better demonstrate their suitability for roles if they are to compete, highlighting desirable attributes such as an apptitutde for adopting new skills quickly, business acumen and an ability to manage complex relationships.”

The research also noted that there is a high demand for IT workers with SQL, although this skill has seen a 1.4% decrease; demand for Agile also increased by 3.2%.
