With the pandemic changing the way we work and having such a negative impact on our day-to-day lives, it seems that for some there are some positives.
Totaljobs has published its latest findings – an ongoing research study examining the changing fortunes of UK workers with regards to the Covid-19 crisis.
Across the country, travel to work by train, tube and bus has halved compared to previous years, as more professionals are working from home.
According to the research, unburdened by costs of their daily commute, many workers are finding a newfound financial freedom.

The average worker in the capital could save £14,309 on their commutes if the trends of 2020 become more firmly established; a result of slightly cheaper travel costs and the increase of flexible working conditions, compared to 2015 data. This is the equivalent of half a year’s worth of wages based on national average.
As a result, two-thirds of Londoners (67%) have been able to increase their personal savings directly thanks to the reduction in daily transport costs, and, a quarter (27%) have been able to pay back debts and mortgages.
Interestingly, when asked whether they miss their commutes at all, 52% of UK workers said they didn’t – this drops to 33% amongst Londoners.
