Umbrella company contractors will be pleased to learn that latest GDP figures from the ONS have revealed positive news with regards to the economy.

According to the recent findings, the UK economy continued to grow by 0.6% in Q4 2016 – at the same rate as the previous two quarters.

This is great news for not just contractors of course, but the country as a whole.

The non-profit and largest association of independent professional in the EU, the IPSE (the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed) have commented on these latest figures.

Lorence Nye, IPSE Economic Adviser, said, “Freelancers will be relieved to see that the economy has remained resilient since the EU referendum. Things are looking up for the smallest businesses; IPSE research, published today, shows confidence has recovered, and average day rates are now slightly higher than they were at the start of the 2016.

He added, “However, freelancers are concerned about the impact of Brexit on their ability to do business. Almost half (47%) told us this could be a problem for them in 2017, and many are concerned that the weakened pound, rising inflation, and post-Brexit uncertainty could lead to economic turbulence in the future.”
