A new survey has revealed that for the majority of workers, the most common switch-off date in the lead-up to Christmas is the 17th of December.
And while the majority of people will admit to having much lower productivity levels during the festive season, it seems that Millennials are the generation that switches off earliest.
The Sopro report shows that nearly half (46.1%) of Millennials engage in non-work-related activities to avoid their duties and are twice as likely as Gen Z employees to put off certain tasks until the New Year.

It’s been suggested that the main reasons behind workers deciding to switch off is a combination of feeling burned out from the busy working year, a lack of motivation and being more focused on Christmas plans.
The top December work-dodging habits are:
- Avoiding big or complex tasks (cited by 31.1%)
- Engaging in non-work-related activities during work hours (29%)
- Taking longer lunch breaks or finishing early (22.5%)
- Shelving work until the New Year (18.7%)
- Doing online shopping during work hours (18.6%)
- Responding to fewer work emails and calls (11.4%)
