The latest REC JobsOutlook survey has revealed great news for contractors, as results have found that the majority of UK employers are still planning on hiring, despite speculation of another recession.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s monthly JobsOutlook surveyed 600 employers across the country, from the public, private and non-profit sectors, questioning them about their hiring intentions.

Of those who were surveyed, 39% aim to increase the use of contractors/ temporary workers, within the next three months and a further 50% said that they intend to maintain their current numbers of contract workers.

With regards to employer’s plans over the following 4-12 months, the majority still aim to increase or maintain their numbers of contractors, as 36% look to boost their use of temporary workers and 55% said that they will continue with their current levels.

REC chief executive Kevin Green, said of the JobsOutlook findings, “Speculation about a possible triple dip recession has not dissuaded employers from their plans to hire.

“Our latest data shows that most businesses intend to take on more permanent staff and continue to use temporary workers. Only a very small number said that they expect to reduce headcounts over the next few months.”
