Latest findings have shown that the number of people running a side-hustle along their full-time job has risen by 33.6%

According to the CV-Library report, these figures are most likely to be due to the pandemic forcing people to stay at home through either furlough schemes or having to self-isolate.

The survey of 1,100 UK workers found that of those who have started up their own side-hustle, 49.2% are planning on leaving their current role to work on it on a full-time basis.

Surprisingly, as many as 77.4% of employers were incredibly supportive of their staff’s side business.

Lee Biggins, CEO and founder of CV-Library, commented, “With so much uncertainty over the last 18 months, it’s understandable that so many employees have looked for new ways to supplement their income.

“What’s more surprising is that so many businesses have been supportive of these endeavours. With staff shortages plaguing the UK job market, it may seem counter-intuitive to encourage employees to strike out on their own. However, it could be argued that this is actually a clever approach to take.

“Offering support will engender loyalty in your staff and as long as employees are focussed on your business during working hours, there shouldn’t be a problem.”
