Umbrella company contractors looking to show support for National Freelancers Day, might be interested to hear that the series of ground breaking films being made for the event, have now been completed.

There are currently 1.6 million freelancers and umbrella company contractors in the UK contributing £82 billion to the country.  National Freelancers Day will celebrate the self-employed in Britain today with a series of seven, five minute films created by freelance producer Rob Edwards and a team of freelance specialists.

The event will be co-sponsored by the Professional Contractors Group (PCG) and contractor accountant specialists Brookson; and is supported by MediaCityUK, the Peel Group, Salford University, the RSA, Creative England, the Northern Soho Meetup Group and new business consultancy Acquire.

The aim of the production was to complete the filming within seven days at MediaCityUK, where an array of freelancers, contractors, business owners, students and economic experts all gathered in order to share their views and experiences.

There was also a valid point made in terms of how those who are self-employed, whether they decide to freelance or work through an umbrella service, are crucial for the UK’s economic recovery.

Paul James, Head of Commercial Development at PCG, says "In an incredibly busy week that would put Hollywood to shame, our film-makers have had to display flexibility, energy and experience to meet a highly challenging deadline – all classic freelancer attributes. The finished films will help illuminate the freelancer experience as well as shining a light on the sector as a whole".

The series of short films will be released in the weeks leading up to National Freelancers Day, which will be held on Wednesday 21st November 2012.
