With the Spring Statement announced earlier this week, there have been criticisms that the government has missed the mark when it comes to UK professionals.

A recent CV-Library report revealed that many of the 4,000 professionals surveyed were already in disagreement with Chancellor Rishi Sunak before the Spring Statement, with 69% saying they feel he is wrong about the job market and don’t share his beliefs or optimism.

The survey found that the costs causing the most concern for UK professionals are:

  • Energy (60%)
  • Fuel (20%)
  • Food (16%)
  • Travel (4%)

As many as 71% of those surveyed admitted that any worries they had about the pandemic and Covid-19 have taken a back seat due to the anxiety surrounding the cost of living.

Lee Biggins, Founder and CEO of CV-Library, commented, “There was never going to be a quick fix to solve the depth of problems the UK is currently facing, but the government missed a big opportunity in the Spring Statement. Bold plans were needed to tackle the rise in the cost of living, and they failed to materialise. Our survey proves that rising energy costs are the biggest concern for most people and the government simply isn’t listening.

“With UK workers having to wait up to two years for the 1p drop in income tax, the immediacy of the rise in the unemployment allowance is a welcome relief for the UK businesses but, overall, there feels like little has been done that will make a significant impact and help drive the change and investment needed for growth.”
