Umbrella company contractors working in the IT and engineering/construction sectors, will be pleased to hear that the demand for these areas has risen at the fastest rates, according to the recent Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) report.
The latest REC and KPMG Report on Jobs, which was released this month, found that after surveying 400 recruitment agencies across the UK, the demand for permanent workers, freelancers and umbrella company contractors, were reported to have risen at the fastest rates for both IT and engineering/construction staff.
It was also found that the Midlands remained the strongest performer across the English regions in terms of both permanent and temporary jobs during May of this year.
Kevin Green, Chief Executive of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, explained that a mixture of both the economic backdrop and the eurozone crisis, are making some employers dubious about committing to taking on new staff. However, this could benefit umbrella company contractors, as businesses are more likely to hire those on a temporary basis instead.
He added, “What’s interesting are the niche areas that are seeing much stronger growth than the national average. And compared to other parts of the country, employers in the Midlands are confident about hiring more temporary and permanent employees.”
Bernard Brown, Partner and Head of Business Services at KPMG, added, “At least there are pockets of good news, with the Midlands remaining the strongest performer and IT, engineering and construction also remaining in pole position when sector data is taken into consideration.”
These findings are very much supported by another recent report, the Manpower’s Employment Outlook survey, which found that out of the 2,100 UK employers questioned, +1% of employers are looking to hire in the next quarter.
