Umbrella company contractors might be interested to learn that York has been named as the UK's fastest growing area for the self-employed.
According to latest findings from PeoplePerHour.com, although London still comes top of the list with regards to hourly rates of pay, particularly for online contractors, it is “by no means” the hotspot for contractor growth.
The recent research has revealed that four of the five biggest growth hubs for self-employed professionals are north of the M25. With York top of the list, the next three hotspots are Hull, Durham and Northampton.
York has seen a significant rise in contractors, with the number of people living there having increased by 195% in the last three years. Hull, Durham and Northampton have seen double-digit growth percentages.
Xenios Thrasyvoulou, founder of PeoplePerHour.com, commented on the recent findings “As more people realise that remote working allows them to command London pay rates without the expense of living in the capital, it’s likely that there will be a dispersal of talent throughout the UK, redressing the earnings balance.”
