Competition for engineers with experience in leading edge technologies to fill today’s automotive jobs is fierce and what we have seen is that job opportunities within the industry have been improving over the last 12 months.
In 2012, automotive manufacturing company, Calsonic Kansei, announced it would be creating more than 140 new jobs at its north-east plant, in Sunderland, open to permanent staff, as well as those freelancing and contracting through umbrella companies.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) also announced that they would be creating new job opportunities, expanding its workforce at its advanced manufacturing facility to support the launch of new Jaguar models. It was estimated that around 1,100 new jobs would be created for contractors, freelancers and permanent workers with specialist skills in the automotive industry.
Only a few months later, Japanese car manufacturer Nissan created over 1,000 job opportunities in the North-East. Production of the latest family hatchback in its assembly plant in Sunderland, should create 225 jobs and then around 900 at supplier companies around the Northeast.
Prime Minister, David Cameron said of the announcement, “It’s proof of the strength and vitality of the British manufacturing industry that leading companies like Nissan are expanding their production in the UK. Nissan’s investment in the UK is a huge vote of confidence in the skills and flexibility of the UK workforce.”
