A recent survey has revealed that UK contractors and small businesses are more confident about their future prospects compared to those in both France and Germany.

According to findings from the annual Sage Business Index, optimism among UK contractors and SME’s (small and medium-sized enterprises) has risen to a four year high.

This perhaps points to a growing confidence in the economic climate, as confidence has increased by four points to 66 – any score that comes in at over 50 is seen as a ‘positive change’.

When compared to other countries, many actually reported a drop in confidence – these included Portugal, Austria and Switzerland.

And, when comparing the UK to the confidence rating of smaller sized businesses and contractors in France, this figure stood at 55, with Germany reporting 63 points.

Umbrella company contractors could certainly benefit from the increased confidence among UK firms, as this could potentially result in increased job opportunities.

Another recent report showing a rise in contractor confidence is the latest Freelance Confidence Index carried out by the IPSE.

According to the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed, a rise in rates of pay has resulted in many contractors feeling optimistic about their prospects.
