According to the latest research by the PCG, out of 1.4 million freelancers and contractors in the UK, 574,000 of them are IT contractors, and around 200,000 of those use an umbrella company like Contractor Umbrella.
It was comforting to see that, when compared to the situation in the early naughties, many organisations – especially financial businesses – are now using IT contractors and replying on them even more than at any time previously. As of now, it appears that there are two main issues which are causing employers to hire specialist IT umbrella contractors – a need to improve information security and a requirement to develop cloud computing technologies. And both are areas where umbrella contractors can really shine, by delivering these skills against a backdrop of past projects and a more varied range of experience than their permanent colleagues can hope to acquire!
