Tax credit claimants, around 73,000 people, will be receiving their annual renewal notices starting from tomorrow.
Although the majority of claims will be automatically renewed, there will be some people who’ll need to check their information and renew by the 31st of July 2024 – if they don’t then they risk having payments stopped.
Notices with a black stripe will be automatically renewed, while claimants who receive a red stripe will need to renew. This can be completed either through GOV.UK or HMRC’s app.

Those claiming tax credits will need to ensure they report certain life changes to HMRC, as relationship changes (such as getting married/divorced, moving in with a new partner etc.), children leaving home and a change in working hours could all affect a claim.
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, said, “Tax credits are valued by many families for their essential contribution to the monthly family budget, so to avoid payments being stopped please respond to HMRC by the 31 July deadline.
