Those who are entitled to tax credits are being reminded that they have just a few days to renew, otherwise, their payments will stop.

At the start of the week, more than 171,350 tax credit customers still needed to renew their annual claims.

Those who received a renewal pack with a red line across the first page and the words ‘reply now’ must respond to HMRC by Monday the 31st of July or risk having their payments stopped.

Those whose packs had a black line across the first page and the words ‘check now’ only need to update HMRC if their details have changed.

The type of life changes that HMRC needs to be aware of include:

  • Any relationship changes (including marriage or separation)
  • If there are changes to the cost of childcare
  • If your child leaves home
  • If your working hours fall below 30 hours a week

HMRC is encouraging people to use the app as a quick and easy method to make any updates.

Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, said, “We know tax credits offer vital financial support for our customers so it is important that you renew by the deadline on 31 July. It is quick and easy to renew online at GOV.UK or using the HMRC app, just search ‘manage my tax credits’ on GOV.UK.”
