Umbrella company contractors working within the automotive industry may be interested to learn that Jaguar is to create over 1,000 new jobs.

Jaguar Land Rover is to create as many as 1,300 new jobs in the West Midlands at its Solihull plant, in order to build Jaguar’s first sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Tata Motors – Jaguar Land Rover’s Indian owners, decided to choose the UK to build the new vehicle because of the country’s skills in producing cars ‘crafted with that special British flair’.

The new SUV, named F-PACE, is due to go on sale next year.

Vince Cable, Business Secretary, said that the decision was a ‘ringing endorsement’ of Britain’s car industry, and that Jaguar Land Rover’s decision to use the UK for production shows that the country has a healthy manufacturing sector.

He said, “The UK's automotive industry is thriving with a new car rolling off the production line every 20 seconds, and increasing levels of investment that's helping to secure local jobs.”

Jaguar Land Rover chief executive Dr Ralf Speth said that the announcement showed the company’s ‘commitment to the UK and the advancement of a high-tech, high-skilled, manufacturing-led economy.”

This latest job announcement from Jaguar Land Rover will add to the £1.5 billion that has already been invested into the plant; the company currently has a workforce of around 10,000 people based at the Solihull plant alone.
