A new survey shows that the majority of UK workers are feeling more pressure to increase their time spent in the office.
The Randstad UK report surveyed 2,000 workers and found that there was a real disconnect when it came to employers’ and employees’ views on how much time should be spent working at home and in the office, with employers expecting more office working.
The majority (55%) of workers said they would consider quitting their jobs if they were asked to increase office time.
Flexibility of hours was also an important factor for most workers, particularly Millennials (84%) and Gen X (82%), closely followed by Boomers (79%) and Gen Z (78%).

Victoria Short, CEO of Randstad UK, said, “Organisations digging in and refusing to budge on remote working could face a great deal of pain as a result. They need to keep that in mind when trying to attract and retain talent.
“There are huge numbers of employers whose working from home policies are negatively affecting their employer brand with potential hires and existing talent.
“They risk haemorrhaging workers and finding it harder — or more expensive — to replace them in 2024. It looks counterproductive.”
