For many umbrella company contractors and freelancers, working on the go is a common occurrence, and now this might be made easier as the Prime Minster has made the announcement that free Wi-Fi will become available on trains.
Prime Minister David Cameron said that providing free Wi-Fi from 2017 would help to ‘bring Britain up to speed’, as well as helping businesses and independent professionals carry out work tasks while travelling.
David Cameron said, “I am pleased to announce plans that will see the rollout of free Wi-Fi on trains across the United Kingdom from 2017.
The government will invest nearly £50 million to ensure that rail passengers are better connected.” The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE) welcomes the announcement, as this policy was a key part of IPSE’s recent manifesto to create a better connected Britain and to truly allow independent professionals to prosper.
Simon McVicker, Director of Policy and External Affairs, commented on the recent announcement, “Independent professionals are always on the move, visiting both new and existing clients, and the current lack of wifi causes a huge loss in productivity.
This proposal was outlined in IPSE’s recent manifesto to help the self-employed reach their full potential and we are delighted the Prime Minister has acted to bring Britain up to speed.
“Other IPSE policies that have already been taken up include the creation of freelance ambassador David Morris MP, a pledge from the Conservative Party to set up a business conciliation service and steps to ease the procurement process for the smallest businesses. “Rolling out WiFi across rail networks will be another success for the UK’s booming self-employed sector. IPSE has also called for mobile coverage on London’s underground, the accelerated rollout of 4G coverage and a guarantee that new housing developments have fibre-optic broadband.”
